Complete the online CRNP application through the Alabama Board of Nursing portal.
Select whether applying as:
“CRNP Seeking Eligible for Collaboration” (license only), or
“CRNP Seeking Approval to Practice” (includes collaborating physician).
Pay the required application fee to the ABN.
Upload all required documents (transcripts, certification, identification, etc.).
Collaborative Practice (Unique to Alabama) THIS APPLIES TO APRNs WHO RESIDE IN ALABAMA OR ARE EMPLOYED BY A PRACTICE/HOSPITAL LOCATED IN ALABAMA
CRNPs must have a collaborating physician approved by both the Alabama Board of Nursing and the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners (ABME) before beginning practice.
Submit a Collaborative Practice Application and protocol through the ABN portal.
The collaborating physician must be actively licensed in Alabama.
Approval must be received before practicing or prescribing in Alabama.
If prescribing controlled substances:
An Alabama Controlled Substance Certificate (ACSC) (if prescribing controlled substances).
Complete 24 contact hours of continuing education (CE) every 2 years, including:
CE is tracked through CE Broker and verified automatically by the ABN.
Typical processing time: 2–4 weeks once all required documents are received.
